Back-n white neutron source at CSNS and its applications

Back-streaming neutrons from the spallation target of China Spallation Neutron Source (CSNS) that emit through incoming proton channel were exploited to build a white neutron beam facility (the so-called Back-n source), which was completed in March 2018. The is very intense, at approximately 2 × 107 n/cm2/s 55 m target, and has nominal with power 100 kW CSNS-I phase kinetic energy 1.6 GeV thick tungsten multiple slices modest moderation cooling water slices. In addition, excellent spectrum spanning 0.5 eV 200 MeV, good time resolution related time-of-flight measurements make it typical source for nuclear data measurements; its overall performance among best sources world. Equipped advanced spectrometers, detectors, application utilities, can serve wide applications, focus on neutron-induced cross-sectional measurements. This article presents an overview characteristics, experimental setups, ongoing applications Back-n.
